Micromuseums

Projects

Beyond giving talks, we can work with you on specific projects.   These often involve us delivering a package of training around interpretation to your volunteers, to up-skill them and enable you to develop your collections.

Given most micromuseums operate from Easter to the late Sumer or early autumn, we have found the best format is to begin discussions in the summer, when we can visit your museum, and put together a package of work we can deliver with you, over your closed, winter period.  This means we can tie in any particular anniversaries, celebrations or commemorations to have the following year.  It also takes the pressure of a tight timeline, because we realise how hard it is co-ordinating multiple volunteer diaries.

Our leading project is on Interpretation.  We can deliver a tailored, museum specific interpretation for a group of up to 12 volunteers, to give you the skills to apply interpretation techniques to your collections, in the way that suits you.

We’ve worked with a range of micromuseums, and we  don’t limit our work to any particular type of museum, you might be an individual initiative, a hobby gone public, a volunteer group, a family endeavour, a small charity, we even work with the ‘big boys’ – the accredited museums.  Although, at our heart, we think ‘small is beautiful’.

However, our aim is to help small, unsupported museums to build their strength and resilience.  We can also support initiatives ‘behind the scenes’, your paperwork, policies, IT use, volunteer recruitment and management, and developing your visitor-facing activities.

Some of our projects are described in the links.
